Why Dr. Azia at We’re So Vain Recommends Compression Stockings

Before your vein procedure, one of our staff members will provide you with a prescription for compression stockings. You will be required to bring the stockings with you on the day of your appointment.

You have probably heard of compression stockings, especially if you or someone you know have varicose or spider veins. These special stockings were created by a biomedical engineer specifically to provide benefits to people who suffer from varicose and spider veins by applying compression in different areas and to varying degrees.

They may look like regular high socks or stockings, but compression stockings are a special medical device made to cover anywhere from your ankle up to the top of the thigh. Compression stockings come in different sizes and are typically made from high-quality nylon.

By putting external pressure on your leg veins, the stockings reduce swelling, or edema, in the legs and stops blood from pooling in the veins. They help to reduce the pain and discomfort after a procedure and even improve the valve function in your leg veins.

What to expect post-procedure

Immediately after your procedure at We’re So Vain, one of our Medical Assistants will help you with putting on the stockings so it will be easier for you to do it yourself at home. You will be required to wear two thigh-high compression stockings on the treated leg for 24 hours. After that, wear one compression stocking on the treated leg for two weeks during the day. You can remove it at nighttime.

And there are no restrictions! You can go back to work the very next day.

An ultrasound will be performed and reviewed in our office to obtain your results. Dr. Azia will see you for a follow-up appointment one week later.
