Varicose Veins - Were So Vain

Do you have stasis dermatitis and legs ulcers?

You are not alone and we can help

At We’re So Vain in New London, board certified surgeon Dr. Gregory Azia often sees patients with dermatitis. This a common leg condition that causes ulcers, inflammation, and itchy, flaky skin on the lower legs. Both men and women can be affected by it, but Dr. Azia sees worse issues with men 50 years old and older. Dermatitis can be caused by a non-healing wound, poor circulation, venous insufficiency, varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or possible heart failure.

Chronic venous insufficiency is a serious condition in which the valves in the leg veins do not work properly. As a result of the malfunctioning valves, blood can flow backward and pool in the lower legs. This pooling blood causes increased pressure and swelling in the veins, which can lead to the symptoms of stasis dermatitis.

How can we help?

Dr. Azia will perform a thorough examination of your legs in his New London office. If he determines you are a good candidate for a vein procedure, his ultrasonographer will perform a diagnostic study through ultrasound technology to see the source of the problem. A great solution may be a venous ablation done right in his office with an oral medication. Compression stockings are required after the procedure and the staff will assist you in putting them on. You will walk out on the same day as the procedure and be able to go back to work the very next day.

Without treatment, stasis dermatitis can lead to serious issues and other physical complications.
